What is a research peptide?

A peptide is a short chain of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. "Research peptides" are synthesised reference materials supplied for in vitro and preclinical laboratory work — for example, receptor-binding assays, cell-culture studies, and mechanistic research. They are not manufactured, tested, or approved as medicines, and they are not for human use.

Conducting legitimate research

Responsible procurement and use typically involves:

  • A qualified investigator and a documented protocol;
  • Institutional governance and ethics/biosafety approval where applicable;
  • Procurement through accounts tied to a research institution or its approved suppliers;
  • Clear records of intended in vitro / non-human use.

A "research use only" label is a statement of intended use, not a regulatory exemption. Confirm the status of each compound with the relevant authority before ordering.

Evaluating quality

Before relying on any product, request:

  • A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (CoA) tied to the exact lot you receive;
  • HPLC purity with a chromatogram, plus mass-spectrometry identity confirmation;
  • A clear batch/lot number and synthesis or test date;
  • Cold-chain handling information for temperature-sensitive items.

Treat a bare "99% pure" claim with no chromatogram or named laboratory as marketing, not evidence.

Handling & storage

Follow standard peptide-handling practice: store as directed (often refrigerated at 2–8 °C, or frozen for lyophilised material), protect from light, avoid freeze–thaw cycles, and observe the in-use window once a product is opened or reconstituted.
